Spinning outfits simply aren't built to throw 3/8 oz. My one caveat on all of this is that this type of fishing needs to be done with a baitcaster. My general rule of thumb is to size the bait to the water, not the fish, so I've got no problem throwing 1/2 oz baits in real rivers while I go down to finesse sizes in the puddle jumpers. I often use 1/2 oz Screamin Eagles in very fast water as they have a compact size and smaller blades and will run truer with the extra weight. bait is likely to roll over when you retrieve it. more hand-tied skirts, and Sampo swivels. They use a light wire for better vibration, Mustad Needle Point hooks, custom. War Eagle Spinnerbaits are some of the hottest to come around in years. If you are fishing fast water, you need a heavier bait. Designed by pro angler Mike McClelland, War Eagles Finesse Spinnerbait sports a smaller profile that works great for finesse applications. Have some black combos with colorado blades ready for heavily stained conditions. On sunny days or clear water conditions you might move to duller tones like mouse, gold & black, or bluegill colored skirts and double willow blades. Mostly, I'd say our baits are white skirts with one silver and one gold blade for our generally stained conditions. lures with a tandem willow/colorado blade. The War Eagle finesse is an excellent all-around lure for our smaller creeks and "rivers," but mostly we throw 3/8 oz. I fish with a group of guys, and we pretty much throw spinnerbaits 95% of the time in our creeks and rivers. I plan on using it with rattle trap style baits as well I wanna go longer but had this rod sitting around. Up to a couple years ago I was all about rooster tails,renal crawls,small spinner/Buzz baits.
